Update 81.4 gave primary casters cantrips: feats that cost no spell points and come back in under a second. Cantrippy turns them into a magic auto-attack. Press one hotkey and it casts a cantrip at the monster you have selected, picking one the monster isn’t immune to or healed by. Hold the key and it keeps casting.

Getting started

  1. Put your cantrips on your hotbars and turn on the metamagics you want for each. Cantrippy casts from those slots, so the metamagic comes with the cast.
  2. Toggle Cantrippy on in game (press the backtick key (`), then Plugins), log in, and open Cantrippy from the Dungeon Helper toolbar.
  3. On the Settings tab, press Set hotkey and press the key you want (Esc cancels). Pick a key the game doesn’t use and you don’t type in chat: Cantrippy can’t stop the game seeing the key, or tell when chat has focus.
  4. Select a monster and press the hotkey.

With nothing selected, Cantrippy casts nothing. It doesn’t pick a target for you.

Choosing a cantrip

There are two modes:

  • Auto (the default) casts whichever of your cantrips should do the most damage to this target. It works this out from your caster level, spellpower, crit chance and crit damage for each element, the slot’s metamagics, and the monster’s vulnerabilities and resistances. Your preferred cantrip wins a tie.
  • Preferred casts the cantrip you choose. It switches to your secondary only when the target is immune to or healed by the preferred element. A resistance alone doesn’t make it switch.

Neither mode ever casts an element that would heal the target. If nothing can be cast, nothing is.

Use range limits (on by default) skips cantrips that can’t reach the target. Turned off, Cantrippy chooses on damage and defenses alone.

The toolbar icon

Cantrippy’s toolbar icon shows what it last cast. It’s a plain wand until your first cast, then a badge in the corner shows that cantrip’s element, fading over half a second whenever it changes. A cast triggered from another client changes the badge too.

The tabs

  • Settings: the hotkey, the mode, your preferred and secondary cantrips, and the switches on this page.
  • Cantrips: each cantrip your character has, where it sits on your hotbars and which metamagics are always on for it. A cantrip that isn’t on a hotbar is still cast, but without that slot’s metamagic settings, so it’s marked as a warning.
  • Output: a record of each press: the target, its defenses, every cantrip’s estimated damage, and which one was cast and why. A cantrip that was ruled out says why: immune, heals, or out of range. Holding the key adds one entry with a count rather than one per cast.

Several characters at once

With more than one game client on the same PC, one character’s casts can trigger the others:

  • Send my casts to other clients (on by default) tells the other clients when this character casts.
  • Cast when another client casts (off by default) makes this character cast when another one does. It uses its own settings and its own target, and stops when the other character lets go of the key.

Settings

  • Settings are saved per character.
  • Play a sound when nothing can be cast is off by default, with a volume slider and a Test button.

Good to know

  • Alchemist Vial cantrips aren’t supported.
  • If the target is only in reach of a hotbar slot with Enlarge on, Cantrippy casts from that slot.
  • Pressing during a cantrip’s cooldown still sends the cast. The game refuses it, just as it would a spam-click.
  • Cut is scored against physical resistance. Monster damage reduction isn’t taken into account.
  • The damage figures are estimates, so treat them as a guide to the choice, not exact numbers.
