Trove release notes

Trove 4.0 is the Dungeon Helper 5 version of Trove. It replaces Trove 3.3, the last version for Dungeon Helper 4. Recording still happens in the game, but searching now happens in a separate program, the Trove Viewer. For how to use each feature, see the Trove guide.

Items marked 4.0.1 arrived in that update. Everything else has been there since 4.0.0.

  • Searching moved out of the game. In Dungeon Helper 4, Trove was a search window on top of the game, and it only searched while you were logged in to a character. In Trove 4.0 the search lives in the Trove Viewer, a normal desktop window you can resize, move to another monitor and use with DDO closed.
  • You pick the server. The Dungeon Helper 4 window searched the server you were logged in to. The viewer has a Server list and remembers the one you used last.
  • It keeps itself up to date. While the game is running, the viewer refreshes as Trove saves. From 4.0.1 it also picks up new characters, banks, accounts and servers without being restarted.
  • Wide windows show more. The results list splits into several columns when the window is wide enough.
  • Three ways to open it. Click Open Viewer in Trove’s in-game window. Dungeon Helper 5 lets a plugin come with its own desktop program, so Trove’s entry in Dungeon Helper’s Plugins list also has a button that opens the viewer, even when Trove is switched off. With DDO closed, run TroveViewer.exe from Trove’s plugin folder.

The in-game window

Trove’s in-game window is now a small control panel, drawn inside the game like every Dungeon Helper 5 plugin window. Its title shows the Trove version. See In game.

  • Disable tracking in quests moved here from the old Settings window. It is still off by default.
  • Pending examinations is new. It counts the items still waiting for their details.
  • Refresh Inventory replaces Rescan Inventory. It rescans the character you are on and then queues an examination for anything still missing details.
  • Open Viewer is new.
  • Examine Selected is new in 4.0.1. It asks for the details of the item you have selected in the game.
  • Forget bank contents… is new in 4.0.1. It needs a second click on a red confirm button, then clears what Trove knows about this character’s personal bank and Reincarnation cache and this account’s shared bank and crafting storage. Trove learns them again as you browse them.

The search box, level range, filters, result list and Identify button are no longer in the game. All but Identify are in the viewer.

Identifying items

  • No more Identify button. In Dungeon Helper 4 you clicked Identify, and Trove selected each unidentified item in turn and opened the game’s Examine window on it. Dungeon Helper 5 lets plugins ask the game for an item’s details directly, so Trove now does it by itself in the background, without selecting anything or opening a window.
  • Fewer items need it. Ingredients, augments, collectables, scrolls and other item types that never carry effects are no longer examined at all, and no longer count as unidentified. A potion is examined once.
  • The Needs Identify filter section is now Needs Help, and its one entry is Missing identification. The old Current entry, which meant the character you were logged in to, is gone because the viewer has no current character.

Banks

These changes are in 4.0.1.

  • Trove follows your banking as you do it. Dungeon Helper 5 tells plugins when you deposit, withdraw or move a bank item, so Trove updates that item straight away. This includes dragging an item onto a specific tab and moving an item to a tab you are not looking at. In Dungeon Helper 4, Trove only learned about a bank change the next time the game showed it that tab.
  • Sorting no longer confuses it. Trove 3 remembered each bank page as you last saw it, so sorting the bank or moving items around could leave an item listed in the wrong place or listed twice. Trove now tracks each banked item by itself, along with the tab it is on.
  • The game’s bank search is used, not ignored. Trove 3 threw away anything it saw while a bank search was active. Trove now records the items a search shows you, but never treats a searched view as the whole bank.
  • Stale entries clear themselves. Once you have paged through every page of a tab without moving or sorting in between, anything Trove still listed on that tab that the game did not show is removed. Deleting a bank tab removes that tab’s items too.
  • The viewer tells you when a bank is out of step. The Items count adds a note such as “(banks: ~2 unseen, ~1 stale)” when Trove’s banks do not match what the game last reported. Hover it for how to resync.
  • Remove from Trove. Right-click any search result to delete that one entry. If DDO is running, Trove may put the entry back the next time it saves, so make lasting corrections with the game closed.

A bank is still only learned when the game shows it to you, as described in What Trove records.

Search results

  • Sort is new: Alphabetical, Character or Account. Trove 3 always sorted by name.
  • Item names are now in bold.
  • Shared bank and crafting storage results now name the account, for example “on account Main, SharedBank tab Main”. Until you name an account, Trove shows the start of its internal identifier.
  • The warning icon for Bound to Character items now appears on every such item. In Dungeon Helper 4 it only appeared when the item was on a character other than the one you were playing.
  • Clicking a result no longer selects that item in the game.
  • A page still holds 100 results, and the level range still starts at 0 to 99.

Item hovers and icons

  • The item hover looks like the game’s. Trove 3 showed a plain text tooltip. From 4.0.1, hovering a result or an item on the Craftable tab shows a framed card laid out like the game’s own item tooltip: armor and weapon lines, critical roll, effects, augments, set bonuses, binding, a charges bar and a durability bar, base value and weight.
  • Hover frame is a new setting behind the gear button, with Auto, Silver, Gold and Grey. Auto is the default and picks a frame for each item.
  • Values that depend on who is wearing the item, such as armor bonus with Dexterity, are not shown.
  • To fill these cards, Trove 4.0.1 records more about each item, including armor bonus, maximum Dexterity bonus, armor check penalty, spell failure and recharges per day. Items recorded by an earlier build pick these up the next time Trove sees them: inventory at your next login, banks as you browse their tabs.
  • Icons come from your DDO installation. From 4.0.1, Trove no longer saves a picture with every item. The viewer draws icons from the game’s own art, which makes Trove’s data files much smaller. On a computer without DDO installed, the viewer still works but shows no icons. If the viewer cannot find your install, set GameInstallPath in viewer-settings.json.
  • From 4.0.1, icons include the padlock on items you have locked.

Filters

All of the Trove 3.3 filters are still there. See Filters. New in 4.0:

  • Item Type gains Ammunition, Miscellaneous (every item type without a filter of its own) and Unknown (entries whose type Trove could not read).
  • Augment Slots gains Empty (has slots, none filled) and No Augments.
  • Not Named is new. It hides both named and raid items.
  • Mythic 1/2 now matches Mythic +2 items. In Trove 3 it only matched +1.

Search scope

The Accounts to include tree and the Always include current account tick box are gone from Settings. They are replaced by Search scope presets at the top of the filter sidebar. See Search scope.

  • Presets are saved per server. Each one is a named choice of accounts, characters and storage, and you switch between them from a list instead of re-ticking a tree.
  • Three presets are built in and cannot be edited: All accounts, Recent accounts and Recent characters. The two Recent presets cover whatever was played within 24 hours of your most recent play. Recent characters leaves out shared storage. These two were added in 4.0.1.
  • The preset editor shows item counts and free slots, as the old tree did.
  • Naming an account moved here. Right-click an account in the preset editor and choose Rename account… or Clear account name. It used to be the Set Name button in Settings.

Craftable tab

The Craftable tab is new in Trove 4.0. It gathers your non-named items into a tree for finding crafting and augment fodder, and each item shows where it is. Two controls sit above the tree: Max items per category (10 by default, up to 100) and Strict Augment Matching. See Craftable tab.

Coming from Dungeon Helper 4

Getting it. Trove comes with the Dungeon Helper 5 installer and is switched off until you turn it on. A Trove 3 install on Dungeon Helper 4 never updates to Trove 4 by itself.

Your saved items do not carry over. Trove 4 keeps its data in a new place, %LocalAppData%\DungeonHelperData\plugins\Trove\, and does not look in your Dungeon Helper 4 folder. Collect again as in Getting started: log in each character, and open each bank, tab and page once.

Your settings do not carry over. Trove 3 kept them in settings.json. Trove 4 uses plugin-settings.json for the in-game window and viewer-settings.json for the viewer, and does not read the old file. Set these again:

  • Disable tracking in quests, if you had it ticked.
  • Your account names.
  • Which accounts and characters to search, now as a Search scope preset.

Trove’s settings are shared by every account and character on the computer, as they were before.

Removed, or not back yet.

  • The in-game search window. Searching is in the viewer only.
  • Export CSV. The link is still in the viewer’s Settings and still asks its two questions, but it does not write a file yet.
  • Identify, replaced by automatic identification.
  • Always include current account and the Accounts to include tree, replaced by Search scope presets.
  • Selecting an item in the game by clicking it in the results.

Renamed.

  • Rescan Inventory is now Refresh Inventory, in the in-game window.
  • Needs Identify is now Needs Help, and All is now Missing identification.
  • Set Name is now Rename account…, in the preset editor.

Things that may surprise you.

  • Opening Trove from the Dungeon Helper toolbar shows the control panel, not a search box. Click Open Viewer.
  • Nothing appears in the viewer for a character until you have logged that character in with Trove 4 switched on.
  • The viewer’s Settings now holds only Open Local Inventory Folder, Export CSV and Hover frame.
  • Trove 4.0.1 converts bank data saved by Trove 4.0.0 the first time it loads it. Do not go back to 4.0.0 afterwards: an older build shows those banks as empty and can lose bank data when it saves.
  • If a data file is damaged, Trove now sets it aside with .bad added to its name instead of replacing it with an empty one.
  • Trove has no hotkeys or chat commands, in either version.
